the top 10 songs played in my iTunes collection/iPod. quite an eclectic mix which is just how i like my music ;):
- “only you” - filter | i love it when bands that can rock hard like they do slow it down & show their softer side… “it just takes a blink / to get out of sync / the lines become blurry / i look at your smile / then i know for a while / i don’t have to worry”
- “i want you” - kings of leon | one of the sexiest songs (not to mention one of the dirtier ones) i’ve ever heard; caleb followill’s voice is butter on this song in all its graveliness (sp?)… “the land of the creeps / freshened up & baby face shaved / but your eyes on me / and i know a place where we can get away / just say i want you / ‘xactly like i used to / cos baby this is only bringing me down”
- “good girls go bad” - cobra starship (feat. leighton meester) | this was a song that came out & just blew up as one of the catchiest club/dance tunes (it occupies space on my “night-out” playlist)… “i make them good girls go bad / you were hanging in the corner / with your five best friends / you heard that i was trouble but you couldn’t resist”
- “teenage dream” - katy perry | one of my favorite songs from one of my least favorite artists but man oh man, when she comes out with a song is it catchy… “before you met me / i was alright but things / were kinda heavy / you brought me to life / now every february / you’ll be my valentine”
- “how to say goodbye” - paul tiernan | quite possibly one of the sweetest sounding songs i’ve ever heard from paul’s vocals to the instrumentation but so melancholy (i love juxtaposition like that in music)… “to get up and go / to catch the last train / to get in some car and drive out again / to never come back this way / left to say: goodbye, so long, farewell, au revoir”
- “breathe” - angels & airwaves | who knew a song this pretty would come from one of the blink-182 side projects; some songs need air & this is one of them… “my hands shake clasped with fear, as you come near / to say goodnight, just like a dove / peaceful sign / to help us by, as you come in / let this begin / stars fall like dust, our lips will touch / we speak too much”
- “the feel good drag” - anberlin | one of my favorite scream-o songs (and i hate scream-o): sexy, fast & a little naughty… “‘i’m here for you’ she said/ and we can stay for a while / my boyfriend’s gone / we can just pretend / lips that need no introduction / now who’s the greater sin / your drab eyes seem to invite / tell me darling where do we begin?”
- “just like heaven” - the cure | one of my favorite bands EVER & i totally understood norah in “nick & norah’s infinite playlist” when she asked “what are they ‘the curing’? they should be called ‘the cause’.”… “spinning on that dizzy edge / i kissed her face and kissed her head / and dreamed of all the different ways / i had to make her glow / why are you so far away? she said / but won’t you ever know that i’m in love with you?”
- “the mess i made” - parachute | i was OBSSESSED with this song for a good month (a part of me still is) & it just snuck up on me; never expected to like this band’s music as much as i do… “should’ve kissed you there / i should’ve held your face / i should’ve watched those eyes / instead of run in place / i should’ve called you out / i should’ve said your name / i should’ve turned around / i should’ve looked again”
- “your call” - secondhand serenade | if i ever get into a HUGE fight with a boyfriend, he better learn how to sing & play this song on guitar & serenade me with it… “cos i was born to tell you i love you / and i am torn to do what i have to / to make you mine / stay with me tonight / and i’m tired of being all alone, and this solitary moment makes me want to come back home”
